Can I use your Panels around my Fireplace/Stove? |
| A. |
Although our panels are incredibly realistic, keep in mind that they are not a stone product, they are manufactured utilizing high density polyurethane. With that in mind, all of our Polyurethane Panels can be used around a Fireplace opening/insert, and/or Stove, provided you follow the Fireplace Insert/Stove Manufacturer's specifications for required clearances.
When using our panels around an open hearth where there will be a “live flame” (i.e., wood, coal, etc.), it is recommended that you use some type of a stone or non flammable border (minimum 6”) before starting our Panels, and then use Class A fire rated panels for the area immediately surrounding the opening. Please note that anytime our panels are used and there is any chance of a live flame or embers coming in contact with the panel, that we recommend using a Class A fire rating. Also, please note that a Class A fire rating makes the panels more fire and heat retardant, it does not make them fire proof. Other than this, our standard panels can be utilized with the same clearances observed as the Fireplace/Stove manufacturer recommends for any standard paneling material or sheetrock. You also must adhere to any, and all, building and/or fire codes concerning clearances that are applicable in your area.

How does Windsor compare in price to the cultured stone type products currently available on the market? |
| A. |
Windsor Panels have been competitively priced and will fall somewhere in the middle of cast stone type products available. The real savings for the contractor comes from the cost of labor for installation by a carpenter vs. the cost of labor and material provided by mason. With the Windsor Panels the value is added and the profit is retained by the contractor. For the do-it-yourselfer, the savings come to those who can install Windsor Panels themselves. |
| |
| Q. |
Who can install the Windsor Panels? |
| A. |
Anyone with a basic understanding of carpentry can easily install Windsor Panels. |
| |
| Q. |
Is Windsor easy to clean? |
| A. |
Any liquid soap or a light spray of Simple Green or the equivalent, followed by light brushing with a soft bristle brush will work with our product. Windsor recommends using whatever product you choose on a small area first to check for color fastness. You can either use a soft bristle brush with a garden hose or a pressure washer, but if you use a pressure washer, be SURE no to get closer than 12 inches and not more than 1500 PSI. There is a special mildew cleaning solution called X-90. It is very effective in removing mildew from vinyl siding, and will work on our product. Windsor Panels are designed to be resistant to the elements as well as all but the most caustic man made products but it would be prudent to test a small area first with any new product. |
| |
| Q. |
Is Windsor flammable and what do all those fire test numbers mean? |
| A. |
First is the Flame Spread Factor which is the distance that the flame spreads across the specimen piece during the test. This is calculated by measuring the distance every 3 seconds which the flame spreads across the panel during the test. The total distance is then compiled to come up with the Flame Spread Factor. Windsor tested at an average of 30.78. Second is the Flame Spread Index or Radiant Panel Index. This is a mathematical calculation using calculus and the area under a curve to compute a number relative to two points: Cement and Red Oak. In this index, Red Oak is 100 and cement is 0. Windsor's index number is 191.13. Vinyl siding can be placed on exterior wall surfaces if it has an index number less than 200. Regardless of tests and numbers, we do not recommend putting Windsor Panels near open flames. We recommend that our product be placed no closer than 12 inches from areas where an open flame may be encountered. You may see similar products claiming to have passed the E-84 flame spread test. This is only a portion of E-84 testing and should not be considered as meeting E-84 requirements. |
